I love this graphic from Goodreads. What makes you put a book down?
Personally, I rarely stop reading a book. I sort of feel that once I get started, I need to see it through to the end. The only book I can remember putting down in the last few years is Kite Runner. I just couldn’t get more than a few pages into it. I also disliked The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I finished it. With that particular book, I did want to know how the story ended, I just didn’t enjoy the page-to-page writing.
Considering the other most-often-abandoned books on this list: I read and enjoyed Wicked, but I read it well before the play existed. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it the other way around. I’ve never been tempted to pick up Atlas Shrugged, but I’ve read the other four in the classics list and enjoyed Lord of the Rings and Catch 22. Although I agree they aren’t for everyone.
