On my bookshelf

Bookshelf

I like to listen to books while I work when I can (yay for the library!). I’m a little scattered with my reading, so I tend to have a few in progress at any given time.

Right now I’m alternating between:

I Shouldn’t Even Be Doing This by Bob Newhart

What can I say? I’m a sucker for reruns of The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart.

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin

A classic. I felt like I needed to exercise my brain a bit.

Just My Type: A Book About Fonts by Simon Garfield

An excellent book for word nerds. I loved the section on the ampersand, but I might be biased (I have an ampersand tattoo on my ankle).

The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd

I just started this one, so I don’t have an opinion yet. Sounds interesting though.

And I have a few waiting in the wings:

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of the President by Candice Millard
Back to Work by Bill Clinton
Annoying: The Science of What Bugs Us by Joe Palca and Flora Lichtman
The Adventure of English: The Biography of a Language by Melvyn Bragg

I read mainly fiction and memoirs at home and prefer my books in their classic form (i.e. paper). Right now I have Milk Glass Moon by Adriana Trigiani on my nightstand.

  1. I also listen to books at work (and while commuting, cooking, etc) – hooray for being an archivist! I liked Destiny of the Republic (which I listened to) and just added Just My Type to my “to read” list. Thanks!
